You have a new development. Whether it’s a commercial, residential, or mixed use scheme, you’ll need to power it. So how do you go about doing that?
Well, if your development is already underway and you haven’t considered the connection you will need, you may find you’re too late. Too late, that is, to save money and time.
Generally speaking, obtaining the power you will need to run your commercial building or site, or residential development, will involve contacting the District Network Operator (DNO). Once contact has been made, the DNO will usually have 25 days to respond to your request. This will be just to confirm that the connection is available.
The next problem you might well encounter is that the required capacity isn’t available. You might have to adjust your expectations and reduce that capacity requirement before going back to the DNO.
If your building or site is particularly large and complex, the DNO will have 90 days to respond.
More delays…
So how do you avoid wasting your precious time and resources in this way? Forewarned is forearmed. It’s best to look into the connectivity aspect of a site well before construction works take place – before you’ve even acquired it if possible. If you know what you’ll need from the outset, you’ll have the knowledge necessary to adapt the design of your building or scheme accordingly.
BTS has been involved in a number of urban expansion sites across the country, where new connection work is being commissioned for both residential, commercial and mixed use schemes totalling 45,000 units and over 1 million square feet of commercial mixed use space
